So, I embarked into learning about a hybrid solution – absorbing the best from modern residential building technology (especially when applied to the interior finish), on / off the grid infrastructure design, pioneers’ techniques of building dwellings in the woods (with a stake on self-reliance potential), maintainable and with monotonically decreasing dependency on high income streams over time.
Given budget constraints, I selected a house building technology that would be DIY-realistic, cost effective (no loans) and would provide endless possibilities to contribute with “sweat equity” as well as artistic and craftsmanship style touches. Pertinent to the location, I compiled the following characteristics:
- commutable to the megalopolis, near a small town in the countryside
- with AG-X zoning (suitable for agriculture and residential activities)
- raw land with timber and water rights
=> Requirement #4:
4.A AG-X with timber and water rights
4.B Countryside, near small town
4.C Buildable (i.e. road access/well drilling possible/passed perk test/electricity in the street and a proper zoning for a building spot)
4.D Simple in construction, energy efficient, DIY-friendly
